Conference 2010

In 2010 the Kurt Lewin Institute Conference was organized on April 15 and 16 in conference centre Woudschoten in Zeist.

Conference chair

This conference was chaired by dr. Wilco W. van Dijk from Leiden University.

Keynote speakers

Keynote speakers of this conference were prof.dr. Kipling Williams (Purdue University, USA), prof.dr. Eveline Crone (Leiden University) and prof.dr Evert van de Vliert (University of Groningen; University of Bergen, Norway).

Conference themes

The conference was organized around five topics that had been central in social and organizational psychology in the previous couple of years. Each theme was organized and chaired by two theme chairs.

1. “Why Morality Matters”
Chair: Belle Derks (Leiden University) and Lotte van Dillen (Leiden University)
2. “Desiring Control and Controlling Our Desires: The Psychology of Regulation and Control”
Chair: Frenk van Harreveld (University of Amsterdam) and Guido van Koningsbruggen (Utrecht University)
3. “Living Apart Together? Cultural and "Natural" Explanation of Human Behavior in Social Psychology”
Chair: Marielle Stel (Utrecht University) and Martijn van Zomeren (University of Groningen)
4. “The influence of Time: Individual and social determinants in temporal processes”
Chair: Kai Jonas (University of Amsterdam) and Michael Vliek (University of Amsterdam)
5. “Influence and motivated economic behavior”
Chair: Kai Jonas (University of Amsterdam) and Michael Vliek (University of Amsterdam)

In each conference theme, speakers from all tracks of the KLI presented their research. The goal of this overarching approach was to stimulate fruitful discussions and exchanges that bridge the different tracks and shed new light on the topics by combining and integrating perspectives from different levels of analysis (i.e., intrapersonal, interpersonal, group and organization, and intergroup).

Best Paper Award

The KLI Best Paper Award 2010 was awarded to Matthijs Baas, who presented his paper at the conference.
