Summary

In the transition from a welfare state to a participation state there is a growing need for citizens to take more responsibility for their own safety and welfare. The aim of this PhD project is to develop (concepts of) interventions and methods in order to enhance ‘community policing’. Community policing is a broad concept, in our project we will focus on citizen participation with the police and relevant stakeholders on issues such as crime and social disorder. In order to develop interventions, first the psychological processes for citizen participation in policing and the role of the police in the matter will be investigated.
