Summary

In light of the growing numbers of first-generation migrants, migration and integration are becoming an increasingly important topic in Europe. For both migrants and host countries to benefit from integration, a speedy and sustainable integration into the labor market is crucial. However, many migrants and organizations experience difficulties in doing so. The characteristics of migrant groups, for example, have been shown to affect their chances in the labor market. From an organizational perspective, formal and informal diversity management practices influence both the recruitment and retention (R&R) of migrants. Building on the concept of ‘person-organization fit’, the perceived fit between migrants and an organization may help to predict successful R&R. We therefore aim to investigate which combinations of organizational practices and individual characteristics such as perceived cultural distance affect R&R of first-generation migrants, and aim to develop an intervention to improve R&R in blue and white color organizations in the Netherlands.
