1.0 ECTC will be appointed for attendance of each seminar. In total, attendants can receive 4.0 ECTS when attending all seminars. It is not compulsory to attend all seminars. Please make sure to register for each seminar that you wish to attend.


WAOP members and KLI members. The WAOP (Werkgemeenschap van onderzoekers in de Arbeids- & OrganisatiePsychologie) is a Dutch Association aiming at the initiation, facilitation, and maintenance of research and training in Work & Organizational psychology in the Netherlands.
The maximum number of attendees per seminar is 20, the minimum is 7. WAOP (non-KLI) members can register with Barbara Kip (University of Groningen): .

Each year, four seminars will be organized. The aims of this joint seminar series are:
(1) To demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the key concepts, theories, models, methods, and research findings of the research program of a leading W&O scholar or research group in the Netherlands.
(2) To demonstrate the ability to select, understand, value, and integrate relevant scientific literature, and to formulate judgments on the basis of the available information.
(3) To extend one's network with senior researchers that may PhD students in W&O Psychology help to advance their academic career. In 2017-2018, the topics are:

1. Substance and Style in Personality and Leadership
2. Personnel Selection and Validity Generalization Analysis
3. Job Crafting from a Diary Perspective
4. The Basic Tenets of Person-Environmental Fit

Topic: Job Crafting from a Diary Perspective.

Inspired by the idea that individuals are active agents who can also influence their job, the workshop will focus on job crafting. Job crafting refers to proactive and voluntary adjustments that individuals make in their work in order to make it more meaningful and satisfying. According to the Job Demands-Resources model, employees can increase resources, increase challenges, and decrease or optimize demands. The aim of the workshop will be to present recent evidence on the predictors and outcomes of job crafting using diary studies as well as studies incorporating other ratings. Diaries represent a proper method to collect information about within-person experiences. In particular, quantitative diary studies have become popular research methods in order to collect frequent reports on the events and experiences of people’s daily lives. Therefore, the second aim of the workshop is to explain the dairy methodology as applied to the study of job crafting. Although persons clearly differ in their overall level of proactivity or job crafting behavior, day-level studies suggest that persons do not engage in job crafting behavior the same degree every day; job crafting shows substantial variation across time.

In each one-day seminar (6 hours), a senior scholar presents work on his/her specialization, including both methodological and theoretical components. The W&O scholar sends the attendees three to four key publications about two weeks in advance (8 hours). After each seminar (within two weeks), the attendees write a brief paper (approximately 1500 words, 14 hours, pass/fail evaluation) consisting of the following parts:
(1) A description of theoretical approach or research methodology discussed in the seminar.
(2) The application of the research methodology or theory learned in the seminar in the form of a study proposal which includes at least one specific hypothesis.
(3) A plan on how the student could integrate the learned research methodology or theory in his/her PhD project, including possible opportunities and challenges.

Each seminar 3-4 articles/chapters, to be announced.
