Purpose

The grant intends to cover (part of the) costs PhD candidates who are a KLI member will incur for for a research stay with a research institution other than their PhD university. By providing this grant, KLI intends to benefit the professional development of a candidate in their PhD and beyond.

Who can apply

Applicants should be PhD candidates who are a KLI member. The research stay should be with another research institute than the PhD is affiliated with; a confirmation letter of the host institution should be submitted with the application.

Budget

• The grant covers costs up to a maximum of 2,000 euros in total (VAT included, if applicable).
• The grant can cover any costs associated with the research stay (e.g., travel, accommodation). If costs related to conducting research are included in the budget (e.g., participant fees), a brief note on how the host institution is supporting the research should be included (e.g., infrastructure costs, matching of participant fees).
• Please note that grant payments will only happen afterwards on the basis of actual costs, supported by formal invoices and/or reimbursement claims

How to apply

• Applicants need to fill out the requested fields of the application form
• Applicants should also upload a Word-document via the application form covering the following issues:
  • planned activities
  • anticipated output
  • anticipated benefit of research stay for applicant
  • estimated budget, including summary of co-funding options (if applicable) and status
• The applicant should also upload a short CV and a confirmation letter of the institution the PhD is intending to have the research stay at

Deadlines

• Applications can be submitted at any moment, but will only be reviewed on a semi-annual basis.
• Hence, deadlines for each round are on 30 April and 30 September of each year

Review procedure

• All applications will be reviewed by KLI’s Research Committee
• All decisions will be communicated to the applicants by e-mail ultimately 15 May and 15 October for each respective application round
• The decision on the application will not be open to discussion or appeal
• In case multiple applications will be eligible for funding, the KLI may choose to
  • make a selection of the proposals ranked highest in quality by the Research Committee, or
  • decide to assign funding to multiple proposals for a lower amount than requested
