Research Initiatives
The KLI wants to facilitate research collaboration between PhDs students from different universities and between universities/lab groups. Therefore we offer two types of grants: the KLI Seedmoney grant and the KLI Many Labs grant.
KLI Seedmoney grant
Interactions between PhD students during KLI meetings and conferences sometimes result in the development of new and exciting research ideas. However, because these ideas are usually not part of PhD projects, it can be difficult to find the necessary budget to carry out the studies and put these ideas to the test. The KLI aims to stimulate and facilitate collaborative research projects between PhD students by a Seedmoney grant.
In this scheme, PhD students of the KLI can apply for funding up to €3.000,- to be spent on costs that would enable research: e.g., participant fees, study materials, etcetera. The call will be send twice a year, once in April and once in September.

KLI Many Labs grant
Over the past decade, there has been extensive discussion on improving research quality. A major concern is that many studies are underpowered for the questions they aim to answer. To address this, journals, reviewers, and scholars have advocated for larger sample sizes. However, increasing sample size comes with challenges. One common approach is using readily accessible online samples, which has led researchers to focus on questions that suit this format. Another approach is collaboration, allowing for larger, more diverse samples and enabling research on topics better suited for in vivo or lab based study.
The KLI aims to support this collaborate model by launching a new grant to facilitate Many Lab research between universities. KLI members can apply for funding up to €9.000,-. Applications that are eligible for funding should be a collaboration between at least two universities/lab groups.
